A complete PDF editor, free and private
Edit and add text
Click a line of existing text to rewrite it, or click anywhere to add a new text box with your own size, colour and bold. Whiteout hides anything you want gone.
Annotate, draw and sign
Highlight, freehand pencil, rectangles, ellipses, lines, arrows, check marks, crosses and images. Sign by drawing, typing or uploading your signature.
Pages under control
Thumbnails sidebar, rotate pages, crop one or all pages to the millimetre, reorder by drag and drop, delete pages, add blank pages or insert another PDF.
Nothing leaves your device
The PDF is opened and saved by your browser, so it is never uploaded. No account, no watermark, no daily limit. Undo and redo every step.
Edit PDF online, right in your browser
BestConverter's PDF editor opens your document page by page and lets you change it the way you would on paper, only with undo. Pages keep their original text and graphics; your edits are drawn on top and merged into the PDF when you click Done or Download, so the file stays sharp and searchable.
Beyond the basics
- Fine control: colour, line width and opacity for shapes and pencil strokes, an optional fill for rectangles and ellipses, any colour for highlights; nudge a selected object with the arrow keys.
- Navigation: search the text of the document, zoom, fit to width, and keyboard shortcuts (Ctrl+Z, Ctrl+Y, Ctrl+F, Ctrl+S, Delete).
- Output: download as PDF, print, save to My documents, or convert the edited file to Word, Excel, PowerPoint, JPG or PNG.
Handy extras on this page
Choose the tool the editor should open with (Edit text, Add text, Sign, Highlight, Whiteout, Draw or Crop) before you drop the file. Drop several PDFs to combine them and edit them as one document, or start from a blank A4 page to fill in by hand. Empty files, files that are not really PDFs and password-protected PDFs are detected before the editor opens, with a clear next step.
Tips for clean results
Replaced lines use a standard font, so keep edits short where the original typeface matters. Scanned pages have no text layer to edit; if you need their words, PDF OCR can extract them as plain text or Word. Whiteout only hides content visually, so it is not a way to redact sensitive data. Very large files work best on a computer, because phones can run out of memory.
Private by design
Editing happens entirely in your browser. Nothing is uploaded while you work, so you can safely edit contracts, forms and invoices on any computer, tablet or phone with a modern browser.

Frequently asked questions
Can I edit a PDF online for free?
Yes. Every tool in the editor is free: editing text, signatures, images, page management and downloading. There is no trial, no watermark and no sign-up. An account is optional and only needed if you want saved documents kept online in your account.
Is it safe to edit a PDF online here?
Yes. The PDF is read, edited and saved by your browser on your own device, and it only reaches a server if you choose to save a copy to your account. That is also why there is no fixed file size limit: very large files depend on your device memory, and we warn you before opening a file over 150 MB.
How do I change the existing text in a PDF?
Choose Edit text and click a line: the original line is covered and you can retype it. The new text uses a standard sans-serif font, so it may not match the original typeface exactly. Scanned pages are pictures with no text layer; cover them with Whiteout (the Eraser button in the editor toolbar) and add new text instead.
How do I add a signature while editing a PDF?
Click Sign, then draw your signature, type your name or upload a picture of it. It is placed on the current page; drag it into position and resize it with the handles. Pick Sign before uploading to open the editor straight in the signature dialog.
Does Whiteout permanently remove text from a PDF?
Whiteout draws an opaque white box over the content, which hides it when the PDF is viewed or printed. The original text underneath is still stored in the file and can be copied out, so do not use it to redact confidential data.
Can I edit a password-protected PDF?
A PDF that needs a password to open must be unlocked first with Unlock PDF; you will be told right away instead of getting an error in the editor. Files with only edit restrictions open, but we warn you because they may not save correctly.
