JPG, PNG or WEBP: which format should you use?
JPG is the standard for photos. It keeps files small by dropping detail the eye hardly notices, which is why it is not ideal for screenshots, logos or text. PNG is lossless and supports transparency, so it suits screenshots, graphics and anything you will edit again, at the cost of bigger files. WEBP is a newer web format that is usually smaller than both, but some older programs cannot open it.
Photos from iPhones are often saved as HEIC. Compress Images, Merge Images, Image to Text and Image to PDF accept HEIC files directly.
Private by default
Images are decoded and saved by your own browser. Holiday photos, scanned IDs and screenshots of private chats are never uploaded, and you can convert a whole batch in one go.
Questions and answers
What is the difference between JPG and PNG?
JPG uses lossy compression and is best for photos. PNG is lossless and supports transparency, so it is better for screenshots, logos and graphics.
Does converting an image improve its quality?
No converter can bring back detail that was already lost. Converting to PNG stops further quality loss, and Enhance Image can fix colour, contrast and noise and upscale a small photo.
Can I convert photos from my iPhone?
Yes. Several tools accept HEIC photos directly, including Compress Images, Merge Images, Image to Text and Image to PDF.
Are my photos uploaded?
No. Every image is processed by your own browser and never leaves your device.
