Drop images, pick them, or paste a screenshot with Ctrl+V.
Choose the language of the text and click Extract text.
Check the highlighted words, edit the text, then copy it or download TXT or Word.
Text you can trust, not just a wall of characters
See every word on the image
Each recognised word is boxed on your image and coloured by confidence. Click a box to jump to that word in the text, or step through the unsure words one by one.
Paste screenshots directly
Press Ctrl+V (Cmd+V on a Mac) or use the Paste button. iPhone HEIC photos, PNG, JPG, WEBP, BMP and GIF are supported, and several images can be read in one go.
Clean-up that helps OCR
Automatic grayscale and contrast, dark-mode screenshots turned into dark text on white, small text enlarged and read again, and sideways photos turned upright.
Private and free
Recognition runs in your browser, so your images are never uploaded. No sign-up, no watermark, no daily limit. Only the language data is downloaded once.
Convert an image to text with OCR
Optical character recognition (OCR) turns the letters in a picture into text you can select, search, edit and paste. BestConverter reads photos of documents, screenshots, scanned pages, slides, signs and receipts directly in your browser, so private images such as IDs, invoices or chat screenshots never leave your device. JPG, PNG, WEBP, BMP, GIF, AVIF and iPhone HEIC files are accepted.
Why the result is easy to check
OCR is never perfect, so the result shows your image next to the text. Every recognised word is outlined: green when the engine is sure, orange when it should be checked, red when it is unsure. Click a box to select that word in the text box, or use "Review unsure words" to go through only the doubtful ones. A word and character count updates as you edit, so you can fix mistakes before copying or saving.
Tips for the best accuracy
- Choose the real language of the text. Accents and special letters (ă, ș, ß, é) are only recognised with the matching language.
- Crop to the text and keep the photo sharp, straight and evenly lit.
- Leave "Enhance contrast" and "Enlarge small text" on for screenshots and phone photos.
- For signs, memes or scattered labels, choose "Scattered text"; for one caption, choose "A single line".
- For tables and receipts, choose "Keep columns with spaces" so rows stay together.
- If nothing is found, try another language or text type and run it again from "Change languages or settings".
Output formats
Copy the text to the clipboard, or download it as a plain TXT file or as a Word (DOCX) document. With several images you can also download one combined file, with the image names as headings, or a ZIP with one text file per image. Your language and clean-up choices are remembered in this browser for the next time you convert an image to text.

Frequently asked questions
Is it safe to convert an image to text here?
Yes. The OCR engine (Tesseract) runs inside your browser, so the image is never uploaded. The only download is the language data for the languages you choose, a few MB each, which your browser then keeps for next time.
Which languages can the image to text converter read?
More than 50, including English, Romanian, German, French, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, Polish, Russian, Ukrainian, Greek, Turkish, Arabic, Hebrew, Hindi, Chinese, Japanese and Korean. You can pick up to four languages for an image that mixes them.
How accurate is image to text OCR?
Clear printed text and screenshots usually come out almost perfect. Handwriting, very stylised fonts, blurry photos and text on busy backgrounds read worse. The confidence meter and the coloured word boxes show exactly which words to check.
How do I copy text from a screenshot?
Take a screenshot (Win+Shift+S on Windows, Shift+Cmd+4 on a Mac), then press Ctrl+V or Cmd+V on this page. Small screenshot text is enlarged automatically, and dark-mode screenshots are inverted before reading.
Can I convert several images to text at once?
Yes. Add as many images as you like. Each one is read in turn, you can review and edit them separately, then copy everything or download one TXT, one Word file or a ZIP with a text file per image.
How do I keep the columns of a receipt or table?
Open "Layout and text type" in the options and choose "Keep columns with spaces". Words on the same row stay on one line and columns are lined up with spaces. To convert a scanned PDF instead of an image, use the PDF OCR tool.
