Privacy and security
Are my files uploaded to a server?
No. Every tool reads, converts and saves your file inside your own browser, so the document never travels to our servers. The only exception is when you are logged in and choose to save a result to My documents.
Is it safe to convert confidential documents here?
Yes. Contracts, ID scans, payslips and medical letters are processed on your device, so there is no copy on a server that could leak or be shared.
Why do some tools download extra data the first time?
OCR, translation, transcription and the video tools need language data, an AI model or a media engine. Your browser downloads it from a public content delivery network the first time and caches it, but your files are still processed on your device.
Do you keep copies of my converted files?
No, because we never receive them. Files you save to My documents stay in your account until you delete them.
Formats and limits
Which file formats are supported?
Documents: PDF, Word (DOC, DOCX), Excel (XLSX, XLS, ODS, CSV), PowerPoint (PPTX), RTF, EPUB, TXT and Markdown. Images: JPG, PNG, WEBP, HEIC, TIFF, GIF, BMP and AVIF. Video and audio: MP4, MOV, WEBM, MKV, AVI, MP3, WAV, M4A, FLAC, OGG and more, plus TXT, SRT and VTT transcripts.
Is there a file size limit?
There is no fixed limit from our side. Because the work happens on your device, the practical limit is its memory: most documents of a few hundred megabytes are fine on a computer, while phones can struggle with very large PDFs or long videos.
How long does a conversion take?
Most documents and images are done in a few seconds. OCR, translation, transcription and video conversion run on your own processor and can take minutes for long files; progress is shown and you can cancel at any time.
Will the converted file look like the original?
Text, fonts, tables and images are kept as close to the original as possible. Unusual fonts, complex layouts and scanned pages may need small fixes afterwards, so always keep your original file.
Price and accounts
Is BestConverter really free?
Yes. Every tool on the site is free to use, with no account and no watermark. We may add optional paid plans with extra features later, but the core tools will stay free.
Do I need an account?
No. Every tool works without signing up. A free account only adds My documents, where you can keep results and reopen PDFs in the editor on another device.
Do you add a watermark to my files?
Never. The files you download are exactly what the tool produced, with no logo, stamp or extra page.
Devices and browsers
Do I need to install anything?
No. BestConverter runs entirely in your web browser on Windows, macOS, Linux, Android and iOS.
Can I use it on my phone?
Yes. The site is fully responsive and every tool works in mobile browsers. Scan to PDF can even use your phone camera to capture paper documents.
Which browsers work best?
Use an up-to-date version of Chrome, Edge, Firefox or Safari. Older browsers can lack features some tools need, such as WebAssembly.
Does it work offline?
Once a tool page and the components it needs have loaded, the conversion itself does not need an internet connection.
