Features

Why convert Word to PDF with BestConverter

Real text, not pictures

The PDF contains genuine text with embedded fonts, so you can search it, copy from it and it stays sharp at any zoom. Hyperlinks stay clickable and headings become PDF bookmarks.

Keeps your formatting

Headings, bold, italic, underline, colours, highlights, numbered and bulleted lists, tables with merged cells and shading, images, footnotes, page breaks and the page size and margins of your document are carried over.

Preview and options

See page 1 before you convert. Keep the document page size or switch to A4, Letter or Legal, change orientation and margins, and add page numbers. An Exact look mode renders pages as images for languages the built-in fonts do not cover.

Private, free, batch-ready

Everything runs in your browser: no upload, no account, no watermark, no email. Convert several Word files at once and download them one by one or as a ZIP.

Word to PDF with real text, right in your browser

PDF is the safest way to send a document: it opens the same way on every device and nobody can change it by accident. BestConverter turns your Word .docx files into PDF without uploading them, so private letters, contracts and reports stay on your computer or phone.

What is kept

  • Text and styles: headings, bold, italic, underline, strikethrough, colours, highlights, superscript and subscript, alignment and justification, indents and line spacing.
  • Structure: numbered and bulleted lists with their own numbering formats, tables with column widths, borders, merged cells, shading and repeated header rows, images, footnotes and endnotes, and manual page breaks.
  • Navigation: hyperlinks stay clickable, and Heading 1 to 6 become PDF bookmarks that work as a table of contents in your PDF reader. The document title and author are copied into the PDF properties.
  • Page setup: the page size, orientation and margins of your document, or your own choice of A4, US Letter or US Legal with five margin presets.

Two conversion modes

Selectable text (recommended) lays out the document page by page and writes real text, which keeps files small and searchable. Serif text is set in Times and monospaced text in Courier; under Advanced you can switch everything to sans-serif. Exact look lets your browser draw the pages and saves them as images on A4. Use it for scripts that the built-in fonts do not include; page options do not apply in this mode.

Tips

  • Drop several .docx files at once to convert them in one go and download a ZIP. Files that cannot be converted, such as old .doc or password-protected documents, are listed with the reason.
  • Turn on page numbers ("1" or "Page 1 of N") when your Word file relies on a footer for numbering, because headers and footers are not carried over.
  • After converting, you can turn the PDF into JPG or PNG images, or open it in the PDF editor to sign or annotate it.
FAQ

Frequently asked questions

How do I convert a Word document to PDF without losing formatting?

Upload the .docx, check the page 1 preview and click Convert to PDF. Text styles, lists, tables, images, links and the page size and margins of your document are kept; headers, footers and multi-column layouts are simplified (see below).

Is the text in the PDF selectable and searchable?

Yes, in the default Selectable text mode. BestConverter lays out your document and writes real text with embedded fonts, so you can search, copy and highlight it in any PDF reader. Only the optional Exact look mode produces image-based pages.

Can I convert an old .doc file to PDF?

Not directly. This tool reads the modern .docx format used since Word 2007. Open the .doc file in Word, LibreOffice or Google Docs, save or download it as .docx, then convert it here. Password-protected documents must be unlocked in Word first.

Will my PDF look exactly like it does in Word?

Very close for typical documents. Headers and footers are left out (use the page numbers option instead), text boxes and floating images join the normal text flow, multi-column layouts become one column, Word charts and EMF or WMF drawings may be missing, and text uses Liberation Sans (Arial metrics), Times or Courier instead of the original fonts.

Does it work with Chinese, Arabic or other scripts?

The embedded font covers Latin, Greek and Cyrillic alphabets, including Romanian and other European diacritics. If your document uses other scripts, BestConverter tells you after conversion; switch to Exact look, which lets your browser draw the pages with its own fonts.

Is it safe to convert confidential Word files here?

Yes. The conversion runs entirely in your web browser, on your own computer or phone, and your Word files are never sent to a server. That makes it a good fit for contracts, CVs and other private papers.
